Social cohesion of generations, gender and populations is crucial for the quality of life in our society. Social cohesion should improve and strengthen the health of people; that is one of the main targets declared by the Austrian Federal Health Commission and the Austrian Council of Ministers, as an important basis for the health reform process.
What is the role of integration here? How can integration projects promote social cohesion for health of the population? The 10 Austrian health targets were developed with the aim to prolong the healthy life years of all people living in Austria within 20 years, irrespective of their level of education, income or personal living condition. They were defined in a broad and participatory process that involved more than 40 stakeholders from relevant institutions and civil society. Now it is time that organisations dealing with migration and integration come into play and have a good look on the implementation of the 10 health targets in their communities and target groups.
