Under the lead of The World of NGOs’ director a group of engaged students at the University of Applied science in Vienna discussed the role of civil society in integration in the frame of their course on public management. What is the personality of people in Austria who are reacting to the complex situation of migration nowadays? One student interestingly differentiated three main groups of citizens – those who are ready to help in any way possible, considered to be part of the ‘real civil society’, forcing the state to adapt laws, regulations and supporting instruments; those who look for human alternatives to reduce the rising flow on refugees on the run; and those who are just against any integration or help for asylum seekers, who see migration as a danger to their own way of life and who argue against any supporting activity. Every group is able to change the public view. But who are the real influencing people? It would be interesting to locate those influencers and bring them into discussion…
